Can hypnosis really help dental issues?Hypnosis can be a very effective solution to many dental issue that conventional dentistry are not focused on. This is because the issue under discussion are based on unconscious habits or triggers. These include, but are not limited to:Teeth Grinding (something known as Bruxism)GaggingTongue ThrustingTongue BitingCheek BitingTMJ (Temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders) You can’t get it backI have worked with the above range of issues to help people have a happier, healthier life. Many of these issues, can cause knock-on effects for example many people experience neck paid or jaw pain as a result of teeth grinding or TMJ. I 100% support your dentist advice that you should look after your teeth. The key concern with the above issues is that they can cause irreparable damage. Nothing is as valuable as your original enamel - as enamel is not living cells they can not re-grow. Natural erosion will occur through eating and drinking (especially sugary substances) so grinding only serves to worsen what is happen.Often items like gum shields or mouth guards are effective preventer’s when used but they do not address the underling unconscious behaviour and more concerning, are often not regularly used when prescribed. It’s the cheaper optionMany of my clients come to me because, after spending thousands on gum shields they either do not wear them because it is uncomfortable while trying to get to sleep or, for those that do keep to the regime of using them, they continually bite down and destroy them over a period of time. In addition many people suffer from dental issue but find it difficult to get them addressed because of issues like:Anxiety of dental surgeriesFear of DentistsFear of Dental DrillsFear of NeedlesExcessive swallowing/salvationExcessive bleedingIn many situations hypnosis provides the option to avoid these situations by overcoming the core issue without having to attend a dental surgery or be faced with a needle. That said, should you need to attend a dental surgery hypnosis is also very effective at helping you overcome your fear or anxiety about dentists or dental drills or dental needles, meaning you can comfortably enjoy the experience or attending your dental practice.Beyond Normal ThinkingAgain, these are all issues that stem from unconscious thinking and are thus beyond the scope of CBT or other traditional talk therapies. Hypnosis enables the client to access what is the root of the issue and to recognise that there are better ways to manage what they are doing - redirecting old habits in new ways. Carefully crafted suggestions free the individual from what they are doing, allowing them to create new and more effective behaviours.Read how local Web blogger overcame teeth grinding over on mytestimonials page.Being in control of Pain Hypnosis is effective for pain control. The video below, provides a demonstration of how someone can experience analgesia. This basically means you can feel the dentist touching you but you will not experience any pain. This is effective not only in situations were clients do not wish to have a needle, but simply because the recovery time following dental work is faster and allows them to get on with their day.
